Good morning, dear reader!
Have you ever had one of those moments of such clear clarity, it startle you? Something just clicks instantaneously in your mind and "ah-ha," it makes such perfect sense. Oprah was right, they are "ah-ha" moments.
So what was my moment of clarity? Expect...
To be hurt. To be let down. Life isn't perfect. It won't go the way you planned, or dreamed. You may have to fall in love more than once, to find the person you share your life with. Your looks won't last, weight will fluctuate, and that's OK. Size 6 might not be the right size for you, but 16 fits you wonderfully. People will lie to you, bad mouth you and call you names. Bad hair days are part of the package and not every water proof mascara is water proof.
You won't succeed at every goal, get every job or promotion that you go for, because you wish it. For some, money is everything. Love isn't always enough, too. You will fail and completely screw things up, friends will come and go, and you will learn who is that real friend. It tends to be the ones who don't say they are, that are your true friends. Failure is part of life, and that includes yours.
Honesty isn't always the best policy. Maturity doesn't come with age, but life experience. Clairol's Nice and Easy won't hide all the grey, as one always slips through the net, and boys, Just For Men won't always mean ageing gracefully.
You will ignore your instincts, make bad judgements, trust the wrong people. You won't win the lottery every time you buy that ticket. Winning millions of pounds/dollars/euros, or whichever you prefer, won't solve your problems.
And I'm not saying this to be pessimistic... I'm smiling as I type this, and it's not meant to be negative, more like hopeful. Humorous.
These were just some of the examples of things running through my mind at the time, as I made my breakfast of tea and toast, with a vision of me today telling me of 16.
It's one of those things I wish they told you at school. Actually, may be not.
It's one of those things that you have to learn, for yourself. But with all the media telling you how your life should be as perfect as the celebrities you follow in the magazines with their stylist dressed wardrobe covering personal trainer fit bodies with not one single out of place hair and make-up artist created face (for the ladies) or the right amount of stubble to be rugged not scruffy (for the men), with their matching eye candy hanging off their arm, 8 mansion house, 3 cars on the drive life style and exceptionally groomed dogs...
Some people just need reminding that for the average human being, the afore mentioned is the stuff of dreams (as my lack of marriage to Matthew McConaughey will tell you) and reality is a lot more challenging, frustrating, confusing than we were ever taught to expect.
OK. Rant over. ;)
Have a really great Friday, do something silly and fun to smile over 20 years down the line over the weekend, too! :)
