Why tarot? I've been asked that a lot. Let me tell you the story.
I first moved to Newbury just before I sat my GCSEs, moving up from Plymouth for my dad's new job. I went to a local school for a few months to sit my exams, and I ended up attending Newbury College, but not where it is situated today. Back then, it was at the other side of town, in the complete opposite direction of where I lived, and I didn't know anyone.
For the first couple of months, I was settling in, but I used to walk to and from college on my own. That would take me through the high street, and past Waterstone's. I used to feel like I was being pulled there, and I can guarantee you, I was in there every day, browsing, reading chapters of books, running my fingers along the spines. I went through every section, but I didn't know what I was looking for.
One day, I was standing at the "Mind, Body & Spirit" bookcase, well, that's what it was called back then. I was picking things out, looking at the back of the books, reading the descriptions, reviews, the first and last pages of the books, and as I put something back, a thick blue and white box caught my eye.
Curious, I pulled it out, read "Rider/Waite Tarot" and it was like a wave of recognition rippled out from within. I knew immediately that this was what I had been searching for, and I went home with that deck, as I'd put it back numerous times but went back to pick it back up as I couldn't leave without it, along with a beginner's guide. I remember coming home, after tucking it away in my backpack like it was a happy little secret that was all mine.
And I was happy, content. I spent weeks shuffling the cards, carrying them around with me wherever I went, reading the book. I started doing readings in the college canteen, library, classrooms... That's how it began... Over time, I read for friends and colleagues, but life got in the way, and I put tarot reading aside, until I had my awakening back in May 2011, which led me to where I am today, here, writing this for you to read.
If there is one thing that I have learn't, it's this: nothing is predictable, where you think you will end up, won't be where you land. When I started TRBJ, I thought I would be doing tarot readings for the rest of my life, but it's not how it's shaping up.
I'm currently studying Aromatherapy and Indian Head & Facial Massage, with Crystal Healing and Reflexology to follow, as reading for clients has taught me that there is much more for me to do and give. Whilst studying, I discovered Neal's Yard Remedies, enabling me to offer gorgeous products that are natural and organic, enabling me to provide safe products for my future therapies and clients.
I like the shape that TRBJ will become in the future.
